Brooklyn vs Manhattan — where's the better lifestyle scene?

We just moved to Brooklyn (Williamsburg) and are curious about the local lifestyle scene. Is everything in Manhattan or does Brooklyn have its own thing going on? We know about Hacienda in Bushwick but what else is out there?

Brooklyn and Manhattan have distinctly different lifestyle vibes:

Manhattan has the established clubs — Labyrinth NYC in Midtown and Checkmate on the Upper East Side are the anchors. These are traditional lifestyle/swinger clubs with play areas, dress codes, and a more classic approach. The Loft Elite's Swinger Lounge is another option. The crowd at Manhattan clubs tends to be more corporate — finance, law, media professionals who dress up and play by the rules.

Brooklyn has a younger, more alternative scene centered around sex-positive community rather than traditional swinging. Hacienda in Bushwick is the heart of it — a brownstone with 14 bedrooms and a focus on poly, sex-positive, and queer-inclusive culture. It's more of a community than a club. Beyond Hacienda, Brooklyn has a rotating cast of loft parties, art-space events, and themed gatherings. The crowd is more creative-class — artists, musicians, tech workers. The vibe is more fluid and less about couple-swapping specifically.

If you're traditional swingers, Manhattan clubs are your best bet. If you're more sex-positive/poly/open, Brooklyn's scene will feel more like home. Many couples do both depending on their mood.

Williamsburg resident here. Brooklyn's scene is less structured but more interesting, in my opinion. Hacienda is unique — nothing else like it in the city. The community aspect means you actually build relationships with people instead of just hooking up with strangers. That said, when we want a straightforward swinger night out, we take the L train to Manhattan and hit Labyrinth. Different tools for different moods.
