Lifestyle events for young professionals in NYC — where to start?

Getting Started

We're a couple in our late 20s, both working in finance. We're curious about the lifestyle but our biggest fear is running into someone from work. Where do young NYC professionals start exploring?

NYC is actually the best city for privacy-conscious young professionals exploring the lifestyle. The city is so big that the odds of running into a colleague at a lifestyle club are tiny — and if you do, they're there too, so mutually assured discretion applies. Here's where to start:

  1. Checkmate NYC — The headshot vetting keeps the crowd serious and the intimate size means you're not in a sea of strangers. Very popular with finance/law/consulting couples.
  2. Lifestyle apps first — Create a profile (use a lifestyle-only email, no face pics publicly), connect with a few couples, meet for drinks in a normal setting. This gives you maximum control.
  3. Labyrinth on a quieter night — Try a Thursday or Friday before jumping into a Saturday. Smaller crowd, less overwhelming.
  4. Off-premise mixers — Several groups organize cocktail meetups at upscale bars in Midtown and FiDi. These are completely stealth — just a group of well-dressed professionals having drinks. Great entry point.

The finance crowd is heavily represented in the NYC lifestyle scene. You'd be surprised how many couples from the same industry are out there. Just keep your vanilla and lifestyle worlds separate with different apps, emails, and discretion about where you go.

We're late 20s in consulting and started exploring 2 years ago. Checkmate was our entry point and it felt very 'us' — professional, discreet, no photos allowed inside. We've since expanded to Labyrinth and house parties. Never had a work-related scare. NYC is big enough that you can live a whole second life without your day life knowing.
